Oil paint and Mixed Media
All of Leanne Christie’s paintings are predominately high-quality oil paint and mixed media with embellished glitter, jewels and gold leaf. These unique paintings, regardless of subject-matter, are textured with an almost three-dimensional feel.
Leanne captures an ethereal landscape with glistening flower petals that seduces the observer into touching the artwork. Just as an English country garden changes through the seasons and moves towards the sun, enchantingly the paintings seem to mimic nature. Depending on the time of day or year, light plays an integral part in magically bringing each painting to life.
Leanne Christie Early Years
Art and design have always been an important part of Leanne’s family life and having grown up surrounded by paint and the smell of turps and wet canvases, an interest in art was formed from an early age. Watching her Mother sketch and draw in her art studio are some of Christie’s earliest memories.
“Painting has always been an integral part of my life. My mum is an amazing artist and would actually make a good forger. I grew up surrounded by all her art stuff. I was twelve when she guided me through my first oil painting. The same technique she taught me I still use in my skies and backgrounds. I love to design, create, experiment and I’m passionate about colours – especially vibrant, transparent colours and anything that shimmers.
My head is full of a million paintings and any chance I get to transfer that on to canvas is heaven…time simply disappears and I find it therapeutic. Especially if I’m dealing with some issue, painting gets it all out of my system and all that energy whether negative or not gets put on canvas, it’s never wasted. In fact, I’ve produced my best pieces when I’m dealing with rubbish in my life.”
As a professional painter for over twenty years, recognition for her work has soared in recent years. Today, “the flower artist” exhibits her original paintings and limited edition prints in galleries across the UK with her work more highly sought-after than ever before.
