The stunning new collection by Scott Tetlow features his iconic chimp family in all their guises and with their individual personalities!

Each chimp has its own personality and whilst there is a message in each of his works, ultimately, they mean whatever the viewer interprets them to mean. There are a multitude of characters in his repertoire, some chimps are satirical, taking themselves or ‘objects’ too seriously, some are nostalgic and remind us of previous times, whilst others are just fun, and cheer us up with a saying that has significance to us. Scott hopes that his chimps “create a reaction, whether it’s a laugh or a “that’s a bit of me in that one!”

Distinctive of the urban pop movement, Scott’s style is innovative and instantly recognisable and was born out of his studies of calligraphy in Taiwan.

His journey of drawing chimps also began many years ago, and his iconic chimp character came into being when he was creating a body of work called ‘Emerging Figures.’ In one piece he couldn’t see any human figures emerging, only a chimp, and eventually he gave in and painted the chimp that he could see! From that point, it has become a regular feature of the Tetlow portfolio!

Scott started to develop his own personal drawing style and through experimentation, as he wanted to find a style that would breathe life into his work, giving it movement and energy. He has always drawn a variety of subjects, women, men, horses, architecture, and so on, but quite often, whenever he wanted to say something, it would be through a chimp.
